Howdy Gang,
My grandson and I call our 4door '85 Golf "Tool Box"
The rear door handles were broken so I just left them off and stick a finger in to press the lever to open.
We pulled the rear seats right out and have the back floor covered with that foil /plastic wrap used in insulating hot water tanks then a carpet on top- tools on top--anyway.
Just topped up the tank with diesel @ $1.50 L and was driving home,
I down shifted and turned right and found we had no power to the wheels. At first I thought my shift linkage had come apart -
so we pulled off the road and on the shoulder.
In the rain.
I had the hood up checking everything I could think of.
Then I looked underneath and saw the right shaft apart at the outer cv joint.
A buddy stopped with his shiney new Dodge turbo diesel PU and offered to tow me to my shop
Neither one of us had any rope and but I had a big box of tools so I undid my rear seat belts with a 17mm and we were off.
I didn't want to leave the "tool box" along side of the road.
The "TB" is in my shop up on jack stands and I have the 30mm axle nut off .
I thought the triple square 6mm socket I've used on many other cv 's would be the same size tool on these FWD as the RWD used.
my snap on socket looks in good shape but too small
what is the correct tool size?
33lbs of torque is that correct?
thanks
hank
