my 84 rabbit NA is leaking fuel out the throttle shaft.
I bought a gasket set for bio and was going to use it on another project but this came up. I replaced the top gasket and throttle shaft seal. It didn't leak after my 3 mile test trip. After two days of work....it leaks as if I had done nothing. I could live with it but it loses prime after sitting all night and won't start easily or this morning without being pulled. Once started works great.
ANY and ALL suggestions especially cheap ones accepted. thanks Lucas ><>

The governor shaft bushing is probably worn into an egg shape. Mine ran about $25, genuine Bosch.

is that the piece that I called the throttle shaft? I hope because I have been there, but the governor inside the pump that is too much for me to handle. If it is what I am calling the throttle shaft *it is the top peice that has the oring that comes up through the top of the pump* where could I get that? Also would I have to buy another top gasket being that this is days old? Thanks for the quick response .

That would be the throttle shaft. There's a bushing between the shaft and housing that you can press out. I'm only speculating here but mine was ovaled out and leaked even with a new seal. If you get the pump cover off and look through that bushing, you can usually see the wear.

I'm pretty sure this is where I got my bushing. Keep in mind that they aren't really in the business of resale so for them to sell you individual pieces is a favor:
Advanced Diesel Systems, Inc.
3138 S. Elm Avenue
Fresno, CA 93706
Phone: (559) 233-6931

I spoke with Paul and he was a good guy. If that's the wrong place, I can dig through my reciepts and get the right number for you.

Also before you call - remove the bushing and know the OD, length and dimensions of the little step on the bottom side.

thanks. More work for me. My only problem now is that this is my daily driver and need it up and running for my sales job. If all the pumps are the same I have a TD pump out in the garage I could take a piece off of and measure...order new and maybe install the TD one in the car right away. Thanks again.

Unfortunately there are at least 4 different throttle bushing heights (according to my local Bosch dealer) so the only way to be sure is to disassemble and measure the one you think is damaged.

I myself don't understand why the bosch pump number isn't enough for them to obtain the correct part... perhaps someone else has had better luck than me.

my hillbilly fix for the short term is that I put a boat squeeze ball in the pump feed. In the morning when I need to go to work pump it up  . I hopefully will just send the pump away soon...I hear the giles pump is good
