eeeh, post turbo EGT makes the gauge move so it looks like your measuring something. That's about it.
If you have K type thermocouple and gauge, toss the one you have and get this puppy:

The diesel world wide rule of thumb limit (sustained) is 1300 Fahrenheit PRETURBINE.
Excursions above that for short periods are OK. How high and how short? Its hard to say.
I've seen 1500 for about 10 seconds a wack on my 1.5TD, backward pistons and all, and found no piston damage when I popped the pistons out to correct my brain fart.
I suspect that you should be able to get enough booste to keep your EGT down, and still get very impressive results performance wise.
