Hello all, i doubt any of you have seen this 4 cylinder diesel engine before so i thought i'd post it up as some of you might find it interesting. It is available as a 1.3 as well and was only fitted in germany to mk3 polo's (89-94) or across europe and posibly other countries in the Seat terra van

I know about the 1.2 and 1.4 three cyl TDI engines but I've never heard of a 1.4 IDI 4 banger. That thing looks really odd with its pump sideways and that cam sproket on the other side.
Anyone know what kind of power they make??

Maximum power 48.0 bhp @ 4500 rpm
Maximum torque 63 ft·lb @ 3500 rpm
I hope to double those figures+ when i turbo mine

on hundred horses in a matchbox. looks a good idea to me

the crank can take it, there is only a problem with these setups, as the pump sits in the end of the cam, if you try to change revs very fast (serious downshift) the cam can flex or even brake.
but its a good project, lots of potential

I first became aware of this engine as an upgrade to the G40 engine, if you bore it out to 77mm, use petrol rods and fit custom forged pistons you get something along the lines of a 1473cc 9:1 compression engine suitable for petrol boosted fun with 240+bhp a reality!! That is with big exhaust valve petrol head on it obviously

You could make a hybrid polo/mk1 golf gearbox mount and use the polo gearbox on this engine, it would fit in a mk1 golf then!!
