Fuel pump Question
« on: May 16, 2008, 05:09:39 pm »
Will a 1.6TD Giles modified fuel pump work on a 1.9TD?

Reason i ask is because my fuel pump is a giles pump, however was damaged in the accident i had.  Basically the lever the throttle cable hooked up to broke right off the pump leaving behind a nice gaping hole to the inside of the pump.  Now i was looking at the pump yesterday somemore and noticed that the entire top of the pump comes off. So it seems that it can be repaired.

Now for my rebuild i am going to be getting a complete 1993 1.9TD passat. Seeing as a Giles pump is thee best thing ever (everyone should get one) i was wondering if it would be better to fix my 1.6 pump and use it on the 1.9, or would it be better to get the 1.9TD pump rebuilt and tweaked by Giles?  So far i've been told the 1.6pump will work fine on a 1.9, is this correct?

Thanks for any insight guys  8)

Call Giles on Tuesday and see what he says. He might be able to make a hybrid pump out of the two for cheaper.
