Will mods ban the porn links?
« on: May 16, 2008, 11:10:58 am »
Is it too much to ask to have mods delete all of these porn threads? I mean, half of the threads titles I see are porn threads...
And just yesterday I clicked on a thread that had been bumped, and the last post that bumped it was full of porn...

Is there a way we can one or two of our daily regulars to get some admin powers to delete these threads and ban the ip's of these guys? I don't think there should be any reason for these threads to last more than a couple of hours... let alone days. And some of these spammers last to make several posts, which shouldn't be happening

I totally agree, right now there are FOUR porn threads, one is from yesterday morning and three are from during last night. The porn did go away for a while but it seems to have come back.

Anyways if another mod is needed I definitely volunteer.........

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

You can actually catch a lot of them before they post, if someone has the time, which is the key. Take this newest registered user for example Pymncifymic. Looking at their profile, and even user name, i would say a 99% chance that some type of spam will be posted by them today. Some of them even list sex or porn in their profiles, a no brainer...

I think RedRotors and possibly Malone are the only ones with banning powers. In order to give that to someone else, you basically have to give them access to the entire forum, and they have to know what they are doing or else the whole forum can be screwed up. So it's a lot of trust and responsibility to give that power to someone. Moderators have much less power, and can only edit and delete posts, but the poster can keep on posting until they get banned.

Just thought id chime in about banning IP addresses. Although you can do it these people probably use proxy servers so everytime they do something the IP changes. Its actually easy to do. Also even if you ban an IP and they dont use a proxy they can just reset their modem and then get a new ip.

If a new member had to be "Approved" before he could post this would stop all the porn/spam.

It's set to auto approve now looks like and that's nice until we get the spamers joining

IDI has more threads then others so they assume more people will check out their ads. I was wondering the same thing a few days ago and looked at how many threads there are.

Despite the fact i said this stuff i swear i have nothing to do with it.

Also i ran a forum a while ago and when you have this many hits and so many people wanting to join. One person would be overwhelmed if they had to go through and approve everyone.

Im impressed that they can get through clicking the email link to activate thing. Either they have a mail server and a decent program to auto click or someone is really bored clicking every activate.

Hey guys,

Yeah I know the porn levels have gone up a lot, partially because of my change of schedule. I was in college for the last 8 months so I had a lot of free time to delete porn and all that crap. Now I work with Giles and by the time I get home I usually have 2-3 hours before I go to bed, not a lot of time to moderate the forum. It also doesn't help that my computer at the new place does not have internet and I have to use my landlord/room mates.

As mentioned, mods can only delete and edit posts, no banning or anything like that. And banning is pretty useless at the same time, because it's very easy to rejoin.

I will talk to Marc about getting another mod to help keep the forum clean.

My vote is:  everyone take a deep breath and chill.

"Half the posts" are *not* porn, and if you pay any attention at all to the subject or the name of the past poster you can pretty much stay out of harm's way if you are annoyed.

I pay absolutely nothing to enjoy this fine forum... and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the mods are making too.

The porn industry has some of the best tech in the world (I've been to security and load-handling conferences where they have been the keynote speakers) and an army of mods could check every day/hour/minute and still have stuff slip thru.

In other words, it's a very tough thing to battle, particularly for volunteers in their spare time. I appreciate the work they are doing... if I can help let me know, otherwise I'll focus on prevention.... if it hurts when you click there then don't click there !!

Now back to the porn.... piston porn:

Well, the thing that annoys me most is when you click on an existing thread w/o checking the last poster and some skunk has put porn on there. The last thing I need is someone to walk by and see that and think I'm a loser, hence, I don't like looking here when anyone's around. Also, I can't recommend this site 'cause I'd be showin' someone were to look at porn and more than one family has been wrecked by it. :x

k.......I'll shut up.

Anyways the mods have all been great :) ....if it weren't for them there would be hundreds of porn threads on here. Thanks
