Hi guys I'm new and i need help finding a TD
« on: May 02, 2005, 08:20:37 pm »
I'm new to this forum just wanted to say HI!

Currentlly I have a APR STG 3+ GTI pretty bad ass car I must say.

Why join a Diesel forum you ask?

well I'm moving to Ramstein Germany in a month or so and my wife is going to need a car... I really want a TD Rabbit or a MK2 TD,  and then get my wife some thing nicer after we get some more money and I'll use that as my daily driver to save $$$$ on gas and getting into minor fender-benders with my 03 GTI.

Are there any good years/engines that I should look for?  I still have my stock IC from my 18.t so I can use that to my addvantage.  Help me out guys thanks.

Jay

Why not buy one when you get to Ramstein, Jay? From the TLQ you can walk to the "Lemon Lot" in less than 10 minutes. There will be plenty of recent vintage TDIs to pick from at very low prices (being sold by folks PCSing to CONUS). German law makes owners take good care of their cars, and you will be sure to find one that suits your needs for reliable, economical transportation. Also, Landstuhl is a ten minute drive away, and they have an even bigger LL.

Good luck! Stan

that's the plan... I just want to do my research now so I know what to look for, I'm shipping my 03 GTI over there 300whp+autobahn=  :D

Do the euro models have any addvantage over the US-spec ones?

Sounds like a good plan, Jay!

I think you will be surprised at how few Rabbits and Mk2's you find there. German law is not particularly friendly to older cars, so don't be shocked if all you find are cars less than 10 years old. OTOH, if you do find a GTD, by all means grab it and bring it back with you!

IIRC, the Euro TDIs (starting in 1997) came with a few more hp than ours. The Mk4 has 110hp versus 90 for ours, if memory serves me correctly. In any case, they are no slouches at laying down the autobahn miles...

Be sure to check out the TDIClub. If you register and go to the "TDI 101" forum, you can post questions there about Euro-spec TDIs and arm yourself with the latest and  info before your port call. There are plenty oe Europeans who hang out there and they will be happy to fill you in.

Good luck! Stan

Dont forget that Europe also has the TDI GTI, 150hp PD with 6-speed in GTI clothing.  Yummy!

If money were no object, I'd import a Lupo GTI, then import a 150 PD and 6-speed and swap it in.  Then own the streets.  >:->

I can only bring one car back with me when i return to the states,  and that's going to be my 1.8T

As much as i would like a newer TDI, but I'm really looking for a car around 1000Euro or so to get around in.  The Lupo is a really nice car though I've gotten to drive one when I was in frankfurt.
