 Just got my engine back together yesterday, took it for a drive today, just a few miles, and noticed the temp was up to 230. I had put a brand new thermostat in it (Auto Parts Warehouse I believe) Now the old one I pulled out, was a factory one that had sort of a rubber piece molded on the moving part where it seals when shut. It was falling apart(rubber) so I ripped it off, leaving a bunch of small holes around the rim. I was thinking this allowed too much water flow in winter, which is why my engine ran so cold. I had also modded the block off disc by turning it around so it would block the bypass sooner and I put a weaker spring on it in case it hindered the stat from opening when it contacted the block.
I know the new one isn't opening as the rad is cold all the way across except right at the tank connected to the head, so there is no water flow. Did the AAZ possibly have a different thermostat from the other engines and I possibly juts got the wrong one or is my new one just junk?
I epoxied most of the holes shut, and will re-install my old one tomorrow.
