Pump pully wobble
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:39:18 pm »
I have a AAZ and the pump pully is wobbling.  It has been like this for some time now and is not really hurting anything.  It is the adjustable kind.  Is this a normal thing that happends or can I fix this without to much trouble?  The shaft is straight just the pully is wobbling???

maybe the pump is out of alignment.  i would check the mounting bolts and tighten them if possible.

Are the bearings in the pump shot? Any crap get between the pulley and the mount last time you did the belt?

That is what I am thinking.  There is something behide it.  I will have to lossen the pull and have a look.  I just don't want to loose my timing.

hopefully the pump bearings aren't shot... but wouldn't you expect it to be leaking diesel if it was???

not necessarily. It`s a pretty tight tolerance and the seal can take most of it up. If you can see it wobbling though, I would expect it to leak if it was the bearings.

Someone also may have warped the pulley

I've had the pump bushing go so bad that the belt started to ride off the pulley.

IT NEVER LEAKED!

If you can wiggle the pully back and forth, the bushing is shot.  Its rebuild time.  If you blow it off, and it wears through the bushing, and into the pump housing, the pump is junk.
