Crosspost from the other forum, but it remains a mystery...
I have a 91 jetta and there is some type of contraption clamped to the front of my fuel filter.
What is it?
The reason I ask is because I'd like to get rid of or relocate it, if possible, to make room for WVO conversion items.

It's the rusty thing in strapped to the front of the fuel filter. It has a wire or two going to it but doesn't have any type of mechanical or vacuum connections at all. The little rubber tube on the bottom there is just open to atmosphere.

I belive it's a VW Diesel altitude compensator. I'm pretty sure that it should be connected somehow via vacuum lines to the vacuum pump and to the injection pump.
Ahhh, maybe THAT'S why I had all those leftover vacuum connections after my engine swap...
It's obviously not hurting anything not being installed
Come to think of it...
On my 1.6 NA inj pump, I had some type of connection on the side of the injection pump (not the stop solenoid) that had an electrical connection. On my 1.6 TD inj pump, it didn't have that connection. Is that the altitude compensation connection?
I can't think of any other way it would influcence the fuel delivery. My inj pump only has the timing belt, stop solenoid, cold handle, and throttle connected to it.
Thanks,
Ray
