My engines blown up...

The engine in my 88 mk2 golf has gone its totaly wrecked,oil pump stopped working,cambelt snapped to :cry: its a 1.6na,what are my options for a replacement engine? need to get the car running again as i use it for work.My brother has a 97mk3 golf estate with 1.9tdi engine he said i could have will this fit?

Tdi or idi in the '97? Here they were both available. The idi is and easy swap, the Tdi is possible but more work. It will bolt up, but running the electronic fuel pump is some work. THe other possibility is using a mechanical fuel pump on your TDI, do a search here and you'll find lots of info. Good luck!

Itll bolt in yes, but youll probably need to jiggle some wires about.
is your Golf a diesel already?

the 1.9 will fit. not exactly plug and play but it will hook up to all the regular mounting stuff.

Thanks guys i could do with all the info i can get about doing this,my dads going to help he's got his own body shop so tools and space arent a problem.If anybody could let me know whats needed for a straight swap that'd be great

yea you can buy the cd version or the book. i'd prefer cd myself (and a printer... cd's don't get dirty or stained or torn and can be backed up :lol:)
