Can the accessory belt tensioner on an aaz (non-AC) be adjusted?
I just installed a clutched TDI alternator pulley, and now it seems the tension is too high in the accessory belt, because the tensioner pulley is squealing.
The clutched pulley is a larger diameter than the old pulley. I think it may actually be intended for the 120 amp alternator rather than my 90 amp one.
It fits the alternator shaft though, and it is not coming off now unless I buy the special tool. I understand it will change my tachometer readings, but I'm not too worried about that. Is there anything I can do to relieve some tension from the tensioner?
Get a longer belt at the local auto parts store. And if the tensioner is squealing, I'd replace it asap.
wow. I guess I was trying to make things complicated.
You figure most auto parts places will have a range of sizes of this type of belt? Sorry, I haven't checked before.
Absolutely. I just measured about what I needed for my non-conventional alt install and they had it. The belts are standardized width wise, and come in tons of different lengths.
