WTB: Rabbit diesel tranny ASAP
« on: May 01, 2008, 05:10:38 pm »
so today isnt a good day at all.   Im planing on leaving for BC on monday, and my tranny decides that it doesnt want to shift out of reverse.   so basically im looking for a tranny, something simular to what i got with a longer fifth gear...either .71 or .75.   doesnt have to be a 7A, although one of those would be nice.   any recommendations on a good tranny for my engine are welcome...as long as you have one forsale :P

I can pick it up tommorow, if possible...something more local but im willing to drive an hour or 2 to pick it up.   lower mileage prefered, but most importantly something that shifts really well.   i guess beggars cant be choosers...

anywho what you got for me?

thanks.

Crap dude. That tranny tanked? You sure it's not just the linkage causing issues? Did it make any noises before this happened or it just won't get out of reverse?

well im not sure if its done.   i took the alignment pin out of the top by the selector rod, and i had to tap it to get it to pop out of reverse.   it worked fine before...i think it might have something to do with the speedo gear thats in there somewhere..

i changed the fluids on it and found the gear back...but still couldnt get it out.   and now i have the rod out, and i cant get it back in

I have a 7A in unknown condition that I was going to use on my caddy. I can bring it to Pickering sunday night. My number is 416-705-5967 feel free to call sunday evening (or whenever) if you haven't found a suitable replacement by then. I want $50 for it. I also have a 4A in good shape other then the leaky clutch cable arm thing. $100 for that one. yes it is a 4 speed.

I'll also hopefully have a AYW (or AWY) on sunday as I plan on taking it out of my car. Come up tonight to Pickering and take it for a test drive if you'd like. It is in a mk2 though so it may not work in the mk1.

Make sure that the rear tranny mount will bolt up to the 4S

4S is what I pulled outta my 92 jetta, someone told me that the older mkII's and newer mkII trans mounts were different as well, but I have not seen the older older one's. I do have to find one myself though cause the AWY one i put in sucks for gear ratios.  burn that 7a you have would that fit in a mkII 92 jetta?

I had a 7A put in for my 4S (84 Rabbit) - wasn't told of any particular issues.

I had this exact same thing happen to my 89 golf. I pulled the trans and while flipping it over I heard a small clunk. It worked fine after that. Still not sure what it was or why it got stuck in reverese.
