Feeler: Possibly parting 1z TDI motor...
« on: April 29, 2008, 07:10:33 am »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not really sure if this is going to happen yet or not. I heard back from the machine shop today on the motor that I was going to be building for my b3 passat and found that the block is going to need to be taken out to the 2nd oversize which means new pistons.
So, its either drop quite a bit of cash for new pistons for the motor or parting the motor out and finding a better one to work with. I'm not concrete on parting the motor at this time...at the very least, the pistons will go though. All other parts are well within spec...even the pistons themselves (just the block that is worn out that far).

So...a feeler. Let me know what you might be interested in.

Up for grabs could be...

1z pistons...complete set of 4 in good condition

1z rods...complete set of 4

1z/AHU crank in good shape, needs minor polish

1z/AHU cylinder head. As is...or I could rebuild it for a fee (regrind valves, new valve stem seals, etc)

Other misc bits such as the valve cover, intake manifold, etc. etc. We'll see. I'd really like to rebuild it but it depends on the cost of the pistons and I don't know whether I trust the prothe units. Need to PM him for more info on what he has.

I'd be interested in the injection lines if they become available as I had to bend ALH lines to make them work.

I would possibly interested in the head and crank. Maybe pistons too?

I might be interested in the entire engine. What were you looking to get for it as a whole?

I'm not quite there yet. Its worth its weight in parts though. I will say though...so don't expect a steal or anything. It is more than usuable
Its more the fundamentals of trying to find good OE quality oversized pistons and where I am at $$$ wise to get them.
I still may be able to swing it. I have an inquiry in to "prothe" asking for more of a description on his pistons that he sells (for really cheap) regarding their quality, etc. I'm almost willing to be a test dummy for them, etc. but I'm leary of anything non OE in a VW motor. I'm waiting to hear from Myke as well regarding the good sets that he is going to have available. So, I'll go from there. Sounds like there is light at the end of the tunnel :) Hopefully... just extra $$$ involved (and damn....the b3 is going to have more displacement engine wise than the mk1 mTDI....that just doesn't seem right).

I'll keep you updated on what I intend to do. At the VERY least I can say that the stock pistons (which measure well within spec w/ exception to rings...) are for sale right now. $230.00 shipped (in the US)

Funds will just be going straight towards and OS set of pistons...covers half the cost (of a good quality OE set)...so... a good cause and would help me get back on track. I'll clean and scrub them for you too, etc. so they are good to go on arrival. I do not have pictures of them (still at the machine shop) but they are in great shape. No gouges, valve marks, etc. etc. Just dirty with soot :)

Thanks to Myke, I'll be moving ahead on this motor.

However, I do have the stock pistons...in great shape. For 230.00 shipped that will be put towards buying new ones. So...if your in need...let me know.
I may make a seperate ad as this motor is NO LONGER being parted...with exception to the stock pistons.
