You can get an account on vagcat.com (it's free, just have to register), and then you can look up any part number.  Just pay special attention to how they have the part description and part numbers formatted.  They put a long solid line between them which is confusing.  Then go to 1stvwpart.com, and paste the part number in to get the price.

Log on to http://vagcat.com with your user name and password.  Then select "Jetta/Vento 1979-1998".  Then select the 1998 model year.  This is kind of a crossover year, and has AAZ/1Z/AHU engine codes all together.  Then select "Engine, Clutch", then "CRANKSHAFT CONROD BEARINGS 1.6-2.0ltr.".  You will see everything right there.  On the right, there's a Partlist box.  It has part numbers separated by one or two solid lines, and then the description.  The description includes specific engines codes it pertains to.  The way they have laid this out is deceiveing.  Those solid lines make it look like the description preceeds the part number, but it doesn't.  The part number comes first, then the solid lines, then the description.  For things like a crank sprocket sometimes there's only one number in the illustration, but there can be multiple part numbers for it in the Partlist box.

The AAZ pulley is 028105263E.  The bolt for it is N90577101.
The 1Z/AUH pulley is 028105263D.  The bolt for it is also N90577101.

Thanx rabbid79 for the reply!!

I really appreciate you giving me the part number urself...  already knowing the part number will help me learn to use vagcat!

But i need part number for the one way pulley as well..  i'll post whatever i can find and u can tell me if its correct.
I am assuming that 1Z/AHU come with one way clutch pulley.

My records show the alternator pulley is part 028 903 119AA.  You will also need a couple of special wrenches, and if your alternator is like mine you'll need to drill, tap, and then install another bolt to hold the whole thing in place.

Metalnerd sells the special wrenches... part # Part MN3400 near the bottom of this page:

http://www.metalnerd.com/cat05.htm

I took some pictures while I modified my alternator to take the new pulley and will do a HOW-TO at some point but it's pretty straightforward.  The new pulley will install and be aligned correctly, but you'll need to add a second way to lock it in place... that's where the drilling and tapping comes in.
