Hi guys,
I'm having trouble getting the 16.5 mm (WTF???) transmission mount bolt out. Can I access the bottom of that fastener if I saw through the bottom of the pipe it sits upon? I may also need a trained gorilla if anybody has one of those...

are you talking about the one that mounts to the exhaust as well? If you are then this is what I did, I couldnt get to it no matter what I tried and just cut the mount off of the exhaust with a torch (aka... The Blue Wrench).

I do not have anything attached to the exhaust. This is the vertical bolt that goes into the same mount that has two horizontal bolts through the top of the gearbox.

Is it the one that goes straight down into the motor mount?

I had the same problem, couldn't get enough torque with a normal socket setup. Mine was a 17mm though it did feel a touch loose. Anyway the only way I could get it undone was to stack a bunch of extensions, and get the air impact gun on it and it came right out. Other then that

I was finally able to get it out with the extensions just like you said. I had to use a powerbar but after busting my fingers I got it undone.

Now all I have to do is get the tranny past the drivers side axle. I have noooo idea how to do that. I've got the engine pushed off to one side and the tranny trying to move the other way but the axle is driving me nuts! :x Atleast the tranny is light! I'll have to record the video of me throwing it off a bridge after I have a sledge hammer fest on it. :twisted:

I had the same problem again, must be a common theme... :roll: Anyway I used a big pry bar and just pryed it down past the tranny and then tied it kinda towards teh rear of the car out of the way. When I put it back together I had the same problem again and used the pry bar to make the room to get it back in.

***Note I didn't pry on the axle but on the tranny to move it enough to get the axle past, also this is much easier with two people one prying and one moving the axle.***

I'll give it a go tomorrow. I was hoping to take the old transmission with me to compare to the new one as it's an 8 hour round trip. I found an AGS which has a double overdrive and the small style reverse switch.

As for the little cover plate on the backside of the engine...I did not notice it. Now that everything it jury rigged with jacks I am somewhat concerned about going under the car so I'll ask first, Is it necessary to remove it? Everything seams to be free and moving around. What exactly is under that plate? Bentley says it may or may not exist so it may or may not be necessary to remove but they do not say which years to look for it on.

I always make a point of removing the drivers side axle. I left it in once and it was always in the way.

I was just going to suggest that. Not absolutely neccesary, but a lot easier! As for the 8 hour round trip, where the heck did youhave to go to find one? No yards around sudbury? Surely there's some around north bay? used to be one in callendar. I've still got some relatives in the bay that would probably know where to look.

I WON!!!! Both inner CV joints need to be pulled and cleaned but I won! I also melted the plastic booster line so I'll have to pick up some vacuum hose for that. Not to mention the broken coolant hose...hehehe Next time I'll just pull both out together and seperate them on the ground.

My AGS turned out to be a rebuilt unit which is kinda good, I hope. I can see that the differential has blown up and come through the case but it has been repaired with a JB weld like material. Let's hope that it has been repaired with a bolt kit and a locking diff as when I grab the two hubs I can not turn them against eachother. Both transmissions have 90 mm hubs despite all web descriptions of the transmissions indicating 100 mm hubs. The AGS also has the upshift wiring which is not supposed to be there according to the web info too. I've got 60 days to blow it up if I hope to get another one for free. :roll: If I can get it in that is...
