Gentex auto-dimming review mirror...a nice upgrade!!!
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:00:52 am »
I don't know if I ever posted the thread there, but I installed a Gentex auto-dimming rear view mirror in my b3 variant last fall and was very impressed with the install! Here is a link to the thread I put on the vortex.

Well, I found a different model of the mirror that added in another function and decided that I'd sell my other one. It honestly has to be one of the BEST upgrades that I've ever done to the car and makes driving at night a lot more enjoyable.  The mirror does a really nice job of auto-dimming, keeping the serious glare from headlights coming up from behind while maintaining your field of view (something which is distorted when you flip your mirror traditionally).

The install was EASY and is non-obtrusive. In the wagon as well I find that this mirror being just slightly wider helps broaden the field of view as well. Very nice upgrade. So, I'm selling the "original" one that I installed. It is a Gentex unit, and just to give you an idea on the price of new ones...

I will include a harness for the mirror and label the wires (as to where they go). Both harnesses also have provisions for auxilary auto-dimming side views as well (in case you ever install them someday) Its a simple 2 wire hook-up
$30.00 shipped takes it. Def. worth the upgrade.

How does it mount mechanically speaking?  I'm thinking a rabbit installation.

Uses a more traditional metal tab that gets glued to the windshield and then it "slides" onto the tab. You secure it to the tab witha  T20 torx if I remember the exact size correctly.

As far as hooking it up. Its a two wire hookup that I ran up through the headliner of my b3. You could tap a 12v switch line and ground there as well.

Pretty simple...

Talk about a damn good price!! I'd love to get this for my B3, I find the OEM mirror so goddamn ugly. If you still have it next week, I'll probably buy it.

Sounds good...I can't tell you how nice of an upgrade it is at night...especially in our cars with large rear windscreens, etc.
