I have a 1986 mf block and it has the hyd hump on the block. It also has an AMC head with the hump but the hump isn't drilled for oil. The block appears to have a plug in the port. My buddy also has a a mf but it is out of an 1985 and has no hump? Does any one know the science to reading engine codes?
The valve cover has the sticker that says it is hydraulic. The car has the valve lash sticker on the core support. The head has solid lifters.
Any ideas? I'd like to find a 1.9 head and run it but i would rather have a hyd block before i go to all the work.
So are you saying its a hyd block but it was used for a solid? The cars date says 11/85. I figured it was an in between engine like an early hyd block but they used it for a solid lifter engine just becuse of the car they put it in. I'll check out that link thanks.
if it has the extra hump on the bock it's a hydro! and if it don't it's a mech.
thats all i know how to tell?

the amc head is aftermarket and may be a solid lifter head, my amc head is the same just has the extra drain hole blocked and its on top of a solid lifter block
I would imagine if it has the hump then passages are drilled? It looks like the hole is just plugged. Thanks for all your help.
