84 Rabbit Diesel Swap
« on: April 05, 2008, 05:37:24 pm »
Hey im in the process of doing an engine swap into my 84 Rabbit. I got a hold of a 92 jetta TD motor and i was told i would have to swap the engine mounts. First im like 99% sure this is the right mount i need to swap just want to confirm.

Second I wanted to know if there was an easy way of doing this that i am missing somehow or if i have to take the injector pump gear off in order to fully remove the bracket and swap it on to the new motor?

Im trying to avoid getting it re-timed but im thinking i don't have much of a choice any help is appreciated[/img]

Yeah, that's the bracket.
...and you do have to pull the injection pump sprocket to seperate it from the pump.
Some folks break the nut loose but leave it so the sprocket doesn't fly, wedge a screwdriver in behind it, and tap the shaft.
I usually try a light version of that and if it doesn't work I slide nuts in behind the small holes in the sprocket and thread bolts into them for the harmonic balancer puller to:

Yeah you got pictures posted. Now hit return between pictures so they don't post side-by-side. :)
There's also a bracket that connects the trany to the rear mount. Some A2 tranys don't have the studs for this bracket.
