motor mount

i was just wondering what everyone thinks......im thinking my front mount is bad. when i put a load on the engine/trans the engine shifts so far backwards that the na air box hits the firewall. my next question is should i get the hydrolic(sp) one?

All of your mounts are probably dead. All of them only cost about $75 so it's not murder. If you grab the motor (when it's off) and rock it around you should be able to see which mounts are moving excessively.

i work for an auto parts store so getting em isnt an issue...i just thought that since it was a diesel it was suposed to rock a little bit. also are there any tips or tricks to changin em out?

The trans mount is easy as is the front one.
I'm not that familiar with the pass rear mount although I'll be installing inserts into mine tonight if all goes well.

For the front mount I just put a floor jack under the front part of the trans and jacked it up till there was enough clearance to get it out.
The trans mount was the same. I suspect if you were doing all of them at the same time you could just jack the entire assy up high enough to get them all out. One at a time of course.

the rear one might be easier if you attached an engine hoist to keep it raised.  i think a regular car jack on the oil pan could do it too... never replaced one but i've taken the motors out  :wink:

my front mount was bad too... going into reverse the car jerked a lot and there was some weird clunks from under the hood.  stuck the car in gear and rocked it and voila! there was some good play in the front mount.  installed a passat solid mount and it works great.  the solid mounts will probably never go bad, but they do rattle more.

http://www.techtonicstuning.com/showpart.asp?partnum=199.160 ....should i get those....seperatly i can get the ones from my work for 155 for combined. and i can have em tommorow. i drive the car 100 miles a day through rush hour traffic if they are easy to replace i dont have an issue doing it every once and a while. just as long as its comfortable.
