2000 Jetta TDI with 224,000KM. It Sat for winter 2006/2007 and would not start after that.
I had it towed and added a bunch of new parts. After adding new battery the diagnosise was very low compression. A brand new Head was added, intake manifold was clogged and completely cleaned out. I've been driving it since September 2007 with not much power and difiicult starting. We replaced the ERG valve (it was leaking anyways) but still missing alot of power. Glow plugs are all good and a sensor was replaced which seemed to help but it still hard to start. I have to keep the key cranked even after it begins firing until it finally catchs. Sometimes starting hot, it starts right up and then stalls immediately like someone cut the ignition. I repeat this 3 or 4 times till it stays running. It runs smoothly once running. The timing has been set and re-set but has no power.
I've seen a TSB on power loss in another forum which states a bunch of things including ECU ground, ERG valve, clogged passages etc.
My mechanic now wants to bolt on another fuel pump but I'm loosing confidence. Also the turbo was changed in 05 about 50K ago and I hear it whistle loud and clear. I've put about 25K on it now so its not bad fuel or anything like that. Also added an additive cleaner...
