I finally have made an intake for the flat red bunny
I will try to post the pictures as I was overly proud of my building this...it was very easy, but I wanted to share. It might be helpful to someone here though most of you are WAY more advanced than this or me in general.
P.S. in the one pic you might get to see the awesome 1/0 battery cables it is the red wire that is bigger than the line comming off of the vacuum pump

I am going to go out now and add some old window screen in front of the pipe just behind the grill to help catch the bigger stuff.

didn't think of bending it. That is 3" schedule 30 pvc so I should have good flow and I couldn't go bigger as my hood is just able to shut. To help increase the flow which I don't know if you can tell from the pics that I ported the inside of the pvc. I didn't want that much bend, but I didn't want it over the IP throttle etc. plus my bracket to hold it up felt really secure there.
I figured someone might ask what did I use to seal the pipe in the airbox. Since no one did I'll tell anyway, it is a rigid polyurathane. It is almost exactly the same stuff as the Great Stuff foam in a can, but instead of expanding with a blowing agent this is solid. Mine isn't so solid as I got it from work because it has moisture in it and when that happens it starts to bubble like the foam.

Andrew I believe you may be right. I can always change that. On a side note I was able to turn up the fuel screw another 1/4 turn. I just test drove it and no smoke no matter what kind of situation. So I just turned it up again and now a little bit of smoke. I am not going anymore on the screw as I don't have an EGT gauge. But it is now 1/2 to 5/8 of a turn over stock.

Nice work! Looks good!

Let us know if you feel any difference while driving.

I think it would look good if you painted the joint and PVC with black spray paint!

I might paint it flat black to match the rims :) . The differences I notice are that I could turn up the fuel and the throttle in the car feels easier to push. I don't know why it felt that way. Didn't matter when I turned the pump up more still feels soft. I didn't touch anything else.

that's pretty sweet. Is the car any louder?

You aren't concerned about driving in the rain and getting the air filter soaking wet?

regarding rain you can hack off 3" from the front and keep a 90 degree elbow in the car... any doubts that it will start drizzling seriously all you have to do is snap it on the end of the pipe and aim it sideways or downwards

That is nice, if I wasn't so lazy I would copy it
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

I wasn't concerned about the rain getting in as much as the bugs this summer. I also didn't think it would be any worse than the stock as you can see in the pics all of the mud water splashed up in the inner fender. I still haven't fitted the old window screen in the grill...I am kicking around the idea of pantyhose or an actual outerwares prefilter for a sprint car K&N stack would fit well but cost money... I am cheap :D . Either one would definately cut the moisture down.

I did buy another 45 elbow and rubber sleeve to help give it more of a direct shot, but it isn't in yet.

The car inside isn't "louder" but it is different. Now the engine is whisper quiet, but you can sometimes hear the intake and now the exhaust could be little louder, but it is a different pitch...overall I would say it is the same or quieter in dB but more pleasurable to the driver :D  outside the car you can definately hear it sucking :o even at idle.

I have driven it 150 miles or so now as I am a salesman and drive alot and would say this about the mod SO FAR

PROS: Sounds better inside the car, Butt Dyno says that the mid to upper RPM pull is noticably better- if it were a gas car it is almost like adding a higher lift cam

CONS: Took the better part of an afternoon, scary cutting the crap out of your intake box and not knowing what will happen for sure, and not any benefit on the low RPM maybe a tick worse or just the mid to upper is so much better it seems that way.

I would DEFINATELY recommend doing this

u could put a baffle over the front so that air doesn't go directly in along with water, i doubt the ram air effect does much, but who knows
