OK, so I got it on the road.
Cleaning in progress (after sitting for a couple years).
Where can I find the clip things that hold the stock hub cap to the wheel?
Does the Dealer (Stearlership) still have those parts?
Aftermarket?
This car is cool. :!:
G'day.
Do you have the round, chrome centre caps about 6" in diameter? If you can't source them in N America, let me know. I know of 2 people in Australia who can post them to you (Small and light so postage is cheap.)

Dude, that`s a long way from home!
What else have you boys got that you`re hiding down under?
N.
VW only inported Golf diesels from late '77 to early '81. Quite a few were sold, but the type of people who bought them did so because they intended doing high kms. And they wore out! Rust isn't a major problem except for those that live near the ocean, and most Aussies do. I do the occasional search of newspaper ads and internet car sale sites and you rarely see a diesel for sale. Mk1 petrols were sold between 1974 and 1981. The A2 never came here, and it's only in the mid 90s that Mk3 appeared (and then Mk4s) but they sold in small numbers. VW have only just reintroduced the diesel this year with the MK5 TDi. Japs and Koreans are everywhere 'cos they're cheap. No diesels though.

Funny it`s the exact opposite here: the bodies rot off the mounts and the engines barely put on any really high kms!
No deisels from Dai Nippon or Korea you say?
They are the 6" style. One or two have a couple rust spots.
The only thing left to do is get the heater blower moving again. It sat outside without a windshield, and I think the heater motor took in some moisture. Other than that, everything is working.

Yeah..Before I was an Aussie I was a Pommie. Rust was a real problem as so much salt was put on the roads in winter. 3 to 4 year old cars were often rust buckets. Here in Oz there isn't any snow (except of course in mountainous areas of the Great Dividing Range and here in Tassie) so the only salt is that which is in the air in coastal regions. Damage from this can be considerable, but only if you live within a couple of kms from the ocean. Cars that have lived all of their lives in the outback can be in absolutely rust-free condidition...except for Jap cars. They seem to rust if you keep them in an oven!
As for diesel cars...Well Aussies just never seem to have caught on. Farmers have bought them over the years as they understand their benefits (and some can be very naughty in putting tax free diesel in the tank!) but apart from serious 4WDs (Landcruisers, Patrols, Landrovers) diesel vehicles are in the minority. The Japs and Koreans export zero diesel cars to Oz even though they do to other countries. Why export them to Oz when nobody will buy them?
So does anyone know where I can get the hub cap clip things?
Link a website.
Thanks
