tranny bolt kit
« on: March 28, 2008, 09:04:48 pm »
Ive got my pel-lok bolt kit for my 020.My diff is on the table and im ready to drill the rivets out.The engine was used as a generator and the diff. was locked.(forced)It was overheated and started to protest(clutch started sticking, didnt want to dissengage),soon after it was dissassembled(by me)The spider gears show signs of wear .Do these gears need to be in constant contact(no play)?Im afraid they have machined clearances out between them causing unwanted outcome, can this be bad?how bad?Im buyin a 81 rabbit w/cis for the td con. it has a 5 spd.can i swap in this diff.?

Yup, you can swap the diffs no problem.  All of the 020's had the same diff.  Just use the TD ring and pinion. (duh).  :)  I'm pretty sure the spiders should have zero play in them.

I bailed on the car,but am still rebuilding the tranny.Concerning the spiders will this cause excessive noise. It will be preloaded to break over at twice the force (40%)
