Author Topic: Oil Pumps out Dipstick tube (Read 4284 times)

:shock: Help! I have a 1989 Jetta Diesel. When I start the engine the oil starts to pump out the dipstick tube, How/Why does this happen? What do I need to do to MAKE IT STOP!

Either the breather in the valve cover is clogged, or you've got some serious blowby. Pull the tube off the top of the valve cover. If you can feel air coming through it while the engine is running, then you know that the breather is clean.

Next, blow through the tube that you just pulled off (I'd say with your mouth, rather than compressed air, incase something is really clogging it, you wouldn't want it to go into the intake). If it's free, then you know that the breather system is venting crankcase pressure back into the intake. The only conclusion is that you've got some wicked blowby.

Either way, it really shouldn't be pushing oil out. Are you overfull?

Pull the hose off the valve cover,... the one that goes to the intake.
If it stops ozzing from the dipstick, drill out the restrictors in the 2 intake portholes the vents are connected to.
Take it out and see if the restrictors were limiting flow so the block gasses don't cause a runaway,... or if they were not needed.
I solved the problem this way once, long ago. Took it up to 80mph and no runaway, it never did run away but that's probably the reason for the restriction.
