Hi to all. I'm new here, and sorry to start with a problem.
1.6 CY code TD VW T3. Was running a NA diesel pump with JX LDA top on it. Ran fine for two years +. 80 MPH + and average 36 MPG
I've just spent my entire holiday banging my head against a diesel pump.
Starting at the beginning, Got the van MOT tested and it failed on not much at all. Before I got a chance to fix what was needed and get it in for a retest, a drive shaft bust in the middle of rush hour traffic. And pretty much at the same time an injector line sheared clean off.
Fixed the drive shaft. Didn't have a spare injector line so decided to fit the SB type pump that was originally on the engine, and ran fine, back on, complete with as new lines.
Pump wouldn't bleed for some reason so I made the monumentally stupid decision to open it up and have a look. Shiny bits all over the floor.
Plan B. Fit the SB top onto the pump that had been on. Did that. timed it to perfection ( I think), Primed and bled the system but it wouldn't go.
Hours of faffing later I realised I'd managed to turn the throttle arm too far and it was trying to work in reverse. Top off , arm in right and it starts.
Just one problem. In my desperation I'd started F*cking with things I new I shouldn't have. Namely the load screw at the back of the pump.
Now the van starts first turn, and drives. That is, drives with no power, or drives with power, but lots of smoke, depending on the load screw adjustment. I just cant find a balance and I'm seriously fed up now.
I realise I've been a complete ***wit, but can anyone advise where I go with it now. Can I sort it, or should I cut my loss's and look for another pump? I've spent hours reading up on VE pumps and was feeling pretty confident this morning, but still cant crack it.
