T3 disassembly and assembly
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:44:51 pm »
Has any one torn the wastegate apart on a t3? How does it pull out of the housing? I'm reassembling a t3 that was apart when i received it. So i wanted to lap the wastegate before i put it all backtogether. Also Does anyone have pics of assembly?

Do a search. I just saved a thread of it to my computer yesterday.

i wouldn't mind something like this as well.  I couldn't find much as far as T3 disassembly on here though  :?

Still none of those state how to remove the wastegate. I'd rather not damage the wastegate trying to remove it.

From what I can remember, there is a big snap-ring around the inner lip of the top of the wastegate can.  It's not a typical snap-ring though, it's almost like an overlapping spring, and there is a taper on the upper-end of it that you slip a pick or thin flathead screwdriver under to pop it off.  Once you do that, the rest is pretty straight-forward.  I had a little diagram that I drew up in paint a while back but it's gone now, as this question gets asked a lot on here.

I don't see any snap rings. The valve head has an allen hole in it but it just spins nothing holding it on the inside. I try not to spin it much cause i don't want to tear the diaphram.

The wastegate works as i applied pressure to it.

I would just like to lap the valve seat to insure no leakage. Has anyone had one of these apart? I'm trying to get this finished up this week in hopes to install it and get my car Running this wknd! Thanks for all the ideas everyone has had so far. I'll try to post some pics later.

It's there, on the top of the wastegate can inside the inner "rim".  I have the guts of mine laying around somewhere, I'll see if I can get a pic of it.  There was a lot of crud built-up in that rim, I would have never seen it until I flushed it out with brake cleaner.  The allen on the valve is used to hold the valve steady while you brake loose the nut on the other end of it, once you get the top off of the can.

Yes, I saw some of your previous explanations about getting the top off the can but I could not see any such ring you describe. What kind of tool have you been using to remove it ?

(a picture of that ring would be most welcome too :) thanks !

I used a really small flat screwdriver.  I didn't have time last night to get a pic, I'll try and see if I can dig it up tonight.  Problem is, I took it apart last year and have moved since then- and since it's so cold my garage is just a bunch of piles and boxes of parts laying around.  :P  I think I know which box the "turbo guts" are in though.
