Worth it for a nice 1981 Diesel Dasher?
« on: April 18, 2005, 03:42:46 pm »
I'm thinking of purchasing a 1981 VW Diesel Dasher that is in awesome condition and has only 64,000 origional miles. Would I be absolutly crazy to spend almost $6000 on this car?

I am a decent home mechanic so repairs on this older model should be easy for me. I've been searching for a ~$6000 VW diesel for a while and can only find pre-85 high-mileage ones is so-so shape for under $3000 and post-97 high-milage ones is not-so-good shape for about $6000.

I want a car that will last several years for long trips with minimal money needed for repairs.

By the way, I need to decide today if I'm gonna purchase this car....

What do y'all think?

Thanks,

Jason

too much.
it's not a collector's car, and it's 24 years old. even half that much is too much, unless it was minty minty mint.
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.
Performance Diesel Injection's Super Pump: gotta have one!

Should be able to get into the early 90's with reasonable mileage for half that or less, and I'm talking canadian dollars!
