Ive just assembled my bottome end with new pistons and rigs in a brandnew 40 over bore.Ive done the bottom end and rod bearings also.I used the 6 piece number 3 on the mains,as well as a 36mm oil pump.When measuring piston protrusion i was turnng her back over to tdc and i noticed a slight "resistance"or drag when coming up to just about tdc for no.1.I was thinking maybe the baffle on the oil pick-up is rubbing.Its right around where the ridge used to be before machining.I didnt notice it before i put the pan on,does anyone have any ideas?Its very slight just enough to stop fluid piston travel.

Errrmmmm.....

First thought is to take it all apart again as it would probably be easier and cheaper now than after it was in and running destroying parts in the process....

Second thought is to start pulling parts off one at a time until the problem is isolated.

First, off comes the oil pump, then the pistons one at a time....

I'm assuming you used some sort of assembly lube?

If the head is on would one of the valves be making contact with a piston top?

Does it only do it on the no.1 cylinder?

The head is off,It feels like the cylinder bore gets slightly smaller when your coming up to tdc.like there is still a ridge or something.I did use assembly lube.Its not much resistance at all just enough to stop a fluid movement.Doesnt feel like metal to metal contact.

It went away!I dont know if the a ring wasnt set or what.Theres isnt anything on the intermiadiate shaft assembly to get in the way, is there?I rotated it so the key is at 12 oclock.Then i rotated the crank one more time and it was "freed".I almost wanna open it to see what happened.It seems odd to me.

I wonder if it wasn't the vacuum pump causing that? You know...the diaphram stretching and stuff. :?:
