whats the deal
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:26:10 am »
im suspecting a bad hg because of a little oil in the coolant...but it starts up fine and i drive it 100 miles a day with no issues. other than a bad shake that i need to figure out too. my question is this. if the headgasket died then wouldnt the car have too low of compression and not run. also woulldnt there be coolant in the oil....?!?!?!?!?!?

not necessarily. oil/coolant contamination is only a possibility, not a definite. A leak down test will show a bad HG or looking in the coolant reservoir for bubbles with the car running may show a bad headgasket.

It could be the oil cooler leaking or it could be some oil that was trapped in the cooling system and was just freed up by the coolant getting hot.

Burn's got it... if you need to find a blown head gasket start with a compression test.

Since you mention a bad shake my crystal ball will predict........  bad compression in two adjacent cylinders.

If you go on ebay for the tester check out harborfreight.com. A dude on ebay buys them from that site and sells them for more then harborfreight sells them for. I have a harborfreight one just havent used it yet.

How did they ship?
USPS or UPS/Fedex?

I ask because, I'd never
buy anything cross-border
if they only ship UPS.

Too may extra/unexpected
Charges.
