Hi there
i need a 5 speed for my 97 idi. i can get a unit from a gas car for a good price. How much will my fuel economy change, if any? I understand the gas unit has lower fifth and final drive ratios. Thanks!! Stan.

Give us the trans code of the trans you can get.
OR you can go here
http://www.vwtransaxles.com/code.html
And take a look for your self.
And another
http://www.scirocco.org/gears/
Once you figure out what trans you are getting figuring the approx mpg will be easier.
