pre-combustion chambers
« on: April 17, 2005, 10:33:47 am »
i have a 1983 td head at the machine shop CY code engine, heres the deal. the last person to "rebuild" butcher the head, messed up the chambers. so my machine shop told me to pop a couple out of some old heads i had laying around. so i did, here is the problem, the ones that came out of the head are 1 3/16" across the face, now the ones i brought him all 12 are 1 1/4". wtf they are bigger?
anybody run into this, and know where i can get a set of the smaller ones?

thanks

The pre-chambers are different from a 1.5l Diesel head versus a 1.6l.  The 1.6l pre-chambers have bigger ports between main combustion chamber and prechamber.  The overall diameter might be different as well.  1.9 prechambers have even larger outside diameters and port size.

I could not find 1.6lTD prechambers listed in VW's part database as a separate replacement part... so I think you may be stuck with trying to find good used ones (avoid any with cracks.)  Good luck.
