HELP PART NEEDED URGENT!!! SORTED NOW THANK YOU
« on: March 17, 2008, 01:33:14 pm »
Is there anyone out there who can help me? now i know this isn,t a gtd but i hope some of the bits are shared. It's an '88 t25 1600 TD. The part i need is the intermediate shaft pulley part no: 068 115 021 B. VW only list this with a D suffix and despite all my explanation they tell me it fits but it doesn't. the pulley i need has lips or ridges allong it's edge to guide the timing belt. Anyone out there got one?? :)

Wow--according to my information VW dropped that part number on 5 May 1989 saying "Please use as replacement 068 115 021 D."
I don't think you'll find a "B" model unless someone has had it in inventory for 20 years...
If you can use a "D" suffix I can have it to your door in a week or so for €85 shipped.

A properly functioning timing belt should not need the raised edges on the IM pulley as it should track true. I might have one kicking around in my parts piles though, I'll have to look

On early MK 1 motors, the IS pulley had the guide ridges. Later MK II motors that were essentially exactly the same, did not have the lateral guides.

Every car that I've ever worked on, which had a TB done before me, had missing chunks off the sides from where some meathead used a screwdriver to try an pry off the pulley, instead of carefully pulling on the center. I usually just file down the sharp spots on the pulley edges and put if right back on. I've never had a problem.

In theory, the 'D' should work just fine, so long as it goes on the intermediate shaft.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies but.... I have a new part no: 068 115 021 D and the offset is different ie. the original B has about 10mm offset on the back and the new item has none to the extent it hits the engine case and is out of line by about the same. Any ideas?
p.s. Quantum TD. My pulley has cracked across the webs or i could have took the edges off it as you suggest.
