Leaky Injector Pump

This morning my 90 jetta started to lose power about 1/4 mile from home.  I took it back and found the injector pump is leaking pretty bad from the throttle shaft on the top of the pump.  Is it possible to replace this seal with the pump still on the engine?  Right now I could use a quick fix till a warmer day to start tearing the car apart.  Its too cold here in Wisconsin, and I'll be working in Florida for 2 weeks.

It will show you how to pull your pump apart. Just focus on the cover.

You'll need a Bosch DGK 126 or 121 seal kit, available at your local Bosch distributor for about $10-20.

The big thing is properly marking the throttle-shaft before disassembly so you know a) how it goes back togther, and b) the position of the throttle shaft in relation to the lever.

you can try running the car off of pure ATF and then let it sit in the pump overnight. It usually buys you some time because it causes the seals to swell back up.

Just unhook the feed line, stick it in the bottle and fire it up. I like to vary the idle when I do this.

I just finished getting the pump back together.  Everything went fairly smooth except those fancy springs. :roll: I think I will still try the ATF trick to help the other seals.  
  The shaft looks worn fairly heavy.  Is this a part I can order along with the bushing when I rebuild the pump?  The car has 200,000 miles on it, if the pump is original will it need any other mechanical parts besides seals?

If it's not leaking I wouldn't recommend the ATF. It swells the seals but they will shrink again with time and may cause new leaks. It's really only a time buyer until you can either afford a reseal or until it's warm enough to ride a bike for a few days
