Hello.
I need the four 12 pt bolts that mount the turbo to the exhaust manifold for a 92 jetta turbo diesel. If anybody has any spares or knows where to source some, I'd appreciate if you contacted me. Thanks.
If nothing else, I'd bet your local dealer could get them.
I found some in grade 14.9 metric at ACE. Contractor supply houses would probably have them, too.

go this route. dealers cost too much!
Ya, I used some grade 8 bolts from the hardware store.
Holding just fine.

I think I paid sixty cents apiece for them, identical bolts but a higher grade than the ones I took off.

Be carefull changing the bolt grade on things that have a lot of vibration and heat. a higher grade doesnt always mean better- just harder. for example a grade 5 bolt is a slightly softer steel than a grade 8 bolt but it has more flex whereas a grade 8 bolt would be more likely to crack than the grade 5 bolt (providing the torque values are correct)

True enough, but the bolts I've been getting are 10.9 metric, which was present in the stock bolt selection on the block. 8.8s and 10.9s are both being replaced with new 10.9 grade bolts. I don't think any harm's going to come from the replacement, personally.
I might have a problem down the road, the socket head bolts are all 12.9 metric grade, which was all I could find. Stock's only 8.8 metric.
good enough then. I'd say youre likely ok. i know a lot of people that have this thinking that bigger is better with no consideration for the engineering theory behind the madness.
