very simple: look at the taillights, if they are square its a mk1
here is how they look like on a mk1
if the look like this
then itīs a mk2
also from side view the mk1 has more sharp edges picture here
and this is how a mk2 looks like

cons:not all eng/inj-pumps are suitable, have to endure hearing bull*** like: that it can't be done and that it damages the engine
