Would a JX 1.6TD engine (fitted into T25 bus and possibly other buses) be a direct replacement for an SB engine? What are the differences between the two engine blocks/heads, or any other parts, clutch flywheel, gearbox etc?
Apologies if this has been covered but the search function wont accept JX or "JX" as valid search criteria.
Thanks
this guy does diesel engine conversions in t25s and aircooled campers. he should know, hes also very friendly and helpfull

you must be looking at the newish one on ebay

well spotted. My recent head gasket problem is going to cost about 150 to put right, after which i'll still have an oily turbo and high-ish miles engine. Whereas for a little more money i might be better off with this rebuilt JX on ebay.
I'm curious as to why you put the ' ' ? Do you think someone found a nice new receipt and a rusty old engine which has been 'kept under a tarpaulin' to tie up with it? What do you reckon, stick with what ive got or bid on this? All opinions gratefully received.
Regarding the internals, the JX is a solid lifter, the SB is hydraulic. The SB also has beefer big-ends with 9mm bolts.
The SB also has uprated injectors, a water-cooled turbo, and an intercooler. It's pump is also better, the LDA on the JX is modified to fit under the bus engine lid, and is supposedly not as effective as the GTD one.
im no expert but surly the block its self cud be used on a gtd, only with different head bolts :?
thanks for the replies guys. It got too expensive so dont think i'll bother.
Just so this doesnt end up a dead end post in case someone else wonders about putting a bus engine into a golf....
The plan was to move all the injectors and pump onto the new engine in place of the JX ones and just fit the whole thing in place on my current SB.
1. Is there any reason why this wouldnt have worked? Engine mounts all in same places?
2. From my research it looks like the exhaust manifold and turbo on the JX are upside down compared to the golf, is that right? If so would this necessitate flipping the manifold and reindexing the turbo so the oil lines point downwards, or could it be left as is with some creative, but no doubt restrictive, pipework to the intercooler?
3. Finaly were all the JX engines solid lifter as i thought i saw one on ebay with two oil gulley 'lumps' at the front, which means its hydraulic lifter doesnt it?
