starting problems....
« on: February 25, 2008, 05:10:59 am »
hey folks,

i am stuck.  i have an 81 diesel bunny that has been pulled from a field after sitting for 11 years and i can't get it to start.  here is what i have so far:

new glow plugs with power to them.  it still won't fire with even with the block heater on
stop solenoid clicks when i jumper it.
fuel comes out of the injectors when they are opened slightly  fuel is brand new and coming from a clean can
engine cranks and i can see the timing belt turn as it should
i checked the oil level and it is good, when i remove the cap, it looks like there is some smoke in there

anything i should try before removing the injectors to see if fuel is spraying thru them?

also, what size socket is needed to turn the injectors?  a 22?

thanks for your help...

any bubbles in the lines?  if there is any air in the lines chances are it won't start.

is it cranking over at a good speed? slow cranking isn't really good enough for an older diesel... plus the rings might be stuck?

i guess the last thing to check would be compression. (you can also check glow plugs while the injector is out... dont forget new heat shields)
