Do I really need a turbo pump ?

All,
The engine that I currently have is an ECO engine (code 1V). Do I really need a turbo pump to crank up the boost ? Or would I get the same fun out of it just by adjusting the fuel screw ? From reading about the governers and whatnot, it seems as if I would get more fuel under boost with a turbo pump at a higher RPM, due to the pin pushing against the governer...Sound right ?
Thanks,
Steve

i think the thing about the turbo pump is you get extra fuel ONLY when you are in positive boost. So if you just adjusted the fuel screw you would get extra fuel all the time, and lots of black smoke when you were not in positive boost.

Interesting....So now the question is: Will I get the same power (although more smoke) out of an NA pump with the screw adjusted, as I would out of a turbo pump with the screw adjusted ?

Assuming the eco pump has the same stroke as a TD pump (what was it, about 2.3mm or so?)... and I'm pretty sure it's got the same 9mm bore like all IDI VW Diesel pumps, I think you could get as much or more ultimate fuel quantity without the LDA, since the LDA device is just a fuel limiter after all. However... have you heard the old racer's adage "power is nothing without control"? Well I think this applies to diesel fueling as well. The LDA device very effectively helps control the fueling so that it is proportional to the amount of boost pressure (air mass) in the motor.

Hrmm...Interesting. Im going to mess with this pump abit, and see what it will do (reasonably). In the meantime, I suppose I'll start looking for a turbo pump.
Thanks,

Hey, I'm going deep and hoping my wife doesn't find out (due to it being expensive) but i sent my pump to Giles. I have an ECO and he is moding the pump as well as turning it into a true turbo pump. The price is not cheap but then the pricing I got around here where I'm at wasn't cheap either and they were just going to rebuild it back stock. So I'm getting some quality work done on it, refreshed and some added benefits of having a true turbo pump. I can't wait to get it back and hook it up. Shipping to Canada from here in NC wasn't but $18. Surprised me. Expected it to be a ton more. I figured between my truck and the jetta, I will be saving $138 a month in fuel cost.

I asked the parts guy at the dealer the other day....proper AAZ TD pump is £500 service exchanged for the old one. Quite a bit, but its totally re-built.
I'm gonna run with the 1Y pump and see how it goes.
