mk2 Mexican dash differant from others?
« on: February 21, 2008, 02:41:20 pm »
Updated a few posts down, please read.

Anyone know?

I was told the cars MFG in Mexico had different dash's than their German counterparts.

Specifically wondering about the 87-91 (ish) years.

Not really worried about the gauges just the dash, as in if I was to find a good one and it was from a Mexican car and my car is a German car will it fit and all my stuff fit?

nope, all the same. Only difference is some were red stripe while most were chrome. I think some were black too.

GTi's and GLi's had red

Thanks that's what I needed to know.

I wonder why I was told it's different...

It was in reference to a dash cover, not one of those material ones but a hard plastic cover so you don't have to replace the entire dash.

The overall shape of the dash is the same, but you can tell the difference between the Mexican, American, and German MK II Dash.

1) The American dash has contoured edges, but a strange dash bezel insert and speaker covers.

2) The German dash has contoured edges and a 'normal' dash bezel insert

3) The Mexican dash has sharper edges around the perimeters (like the side edges, around the dash, etc.).

Parts (dash bezel, speaker covers, etc) are interchangeable and identical between the German and Mexican dash, but neither is interchangeable with the American dash.

Most "purists" prefer the German dash, since the American dash is retarded and the Mexican dash is slightly goofy looking.

Here is the company http://www.coverlaymfg.com/

They make some nice dash covers, not the nasty ones made from material but an actual cover made of injected plastic.

Up until this last Monday they had a listing for the 87-92 Golf, same as the Jetta dash.

So I send them a message so I can get one coming and they have pulled that one from their catalog.
They told me if they get enough interest they will produce some more.

So, I don't need anyone to buy one unless you want just send them an E mail here [email protected] and ask if they make them. Just show some interest and they will make some.

Thanks all...

Bump for a good product quite a few of us could use.

Just send them an e mail asking if they are available.
