who has tried p502 nozzles?
« on: April 06, 2005, 12:26:34 pm »
hello ,
did anyone fit the p502(0.216) nozzles on a bone stock ahu 90 hp engine?
how does it work, smoke, etc.....
i measured the holes, and it seems that they are even larger then supposed to, i figured around 0.228. it seems a very big step to me, so i'd like to share your experience.

In my 1Z, which is practically the same thing as AHU, I have the Bosch equivalent injectors - the original injectors for the 150hp 5-cylinder TDI engine.

I had to fiddle with the hose leading to the intake pressure sensor and install a mechanical boost controller so that I could get 17 psi (about 1.2 bar) boost pressure. At stock boost pressure, it smokes way too much.

You also need to reduce or disable the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). This can be done sufficiently with VAG-COM adaptation adjustment.

The hard part is getting the ECU to not "shudder" during highway cruising. I had to shift the top two sections of the pump over very slightly so that VAG-COM reports about 6.4 mg/stroke at idle. Like this, it's OK, I only get shudder in a narrow range of speed and load and only in a narrow range of outside temperature. Can't get rid of it completely.

If you get your chip re-programmed to suit the big injectors, that should solve this, and that's the right way to do it now (couldn't do it at the time I put those injectors in).
'96 Passat TDI (looks stock)

Are you referring to the 502 or 520 nozzles? As far as I knew, the 520 nozzles were the 110hp TDI nozzles. If not, then what are the 502's?

hello guys, thanks all for your answers.
for caddy:it's funny to exchange in english, but it's a good training.
as for hole measurments, we've got here a very precise machine, since we do micro mecanics.
did you also have shudder on your alh?did you also raise the boost with a leak?
so the 0.230 you've tried aren't p502?it would be interesting measuring them.
cheers stef

so i can send you nozzles for measure if you can!
i have 230 240 250 260 only one of each because they were  a set of 5 nozzle for t4 engine and sell them for 4cyl. and 216 too.
no shudder with them but i just see the dyno test, i don't drive the car to confirm it!
the boost was raise by electronique programmation, that cost 50 eur at the car owner , don't remenber who make this job, i have to ask the guy.

ps: yes that a funny exange!

c'est une  vibration produite par le moteur; les mk3 font cette vibration en régime constant autour de 120km/h alors que les mk4 (alh) le font lorsque l'on ralenti (slow down shudder)
