Which maniflds fit?
« on: February 20, 2008, 10:14:12 am »
Just to make sure before i buy the intake, will the exhaust and intake manifolds from an idi fit the ALH or AHU heads i want to get. I seem to think they will?! i already have a exhaust from a quantum, just no motor yet. it's just that i seem to remember that someone mentioned that those motors are not quite the same length.

All of the TDI and IDI manifolds will bolt up but the port shapes vary a bit.  I have an ALH intake manifold on my 1.6.

tdi had D shaped intake ports,i didnt think an idi intake would fit
the bolt pattern is the same, though
exhaust ports are the same
im runnin a early 4-2 exhaust manifold flipped upside down on my tdi(minor clearancing needed)
what other engines have a d shaped intake port that we can swipe a better flowing intake from???
heres a pic of a stock intake i cut down

im figuring to tig weld a 3 inch aluminum pipe to it for a log style intake
just a pic for ideas

im probably gonna make 1/4 -3/8 spacers to put the exhaust manifold back a little for more intake clearance
but i may have to modify the firewall for clearance, cause the wastegate is close as It is.....
pic of spacers,cnc machined

heres a pic of a crank breather adapter i made on a lathe/mill,to get rid of the crack prone breather pipe from the 'case to the valve cover
just get some of that 1 inch id clear braded home depot hose to hook it to the valve cover

Throttle cables ftw

Deo, any reason why you have the exhaust manifold flipped?  I might have a spare dual-port gasser manifold left over. ;) Interested in that adapter plate you made.  :)

Just wondering, as I might need the space above for an intake manifold and I wanted to run the manifold pointed downward.

The 1.9 has D ports, just the same as a TDI.
