Windshield

I found my new toy in a barn without a windshield. Now i've got it running, registered and all that. But, no windshield.  What is involved with installing a new one? It does need the rubber moulding, I found a place locally selling glass and moulding for $156. My question is, does the rubber moulding hold it in or is there something else I should Know?

Are you sure it needs the rubber gasket?
 Some of them need to be glued in .... after '82 I think.
 The ones with the rubber gasket are easy to put in if you have the right gasket. I got a gasket from a windshield place once and it wouldn't fit. I had an experienced glass person here, a friend of mine that brought the gasket from the glass shop he was working at. We broke a couple windshields before we realised there was no way that gasket was going to work.
 When it's the right gasket, I put the gasket on the windshield and run 1/4" braided nylon cord all around the gasket in the slot the body pinchweld slides into. I set it in place and pull the cord, starting at the bottom. As I pull the cord the gasket lip flips out and over the pinchweld on the car.
 Like a zipper, all the way around.
 I'm still learning how to glue them in, just put one in an '84 Rabbit with the help of Jim my glass installer friend and didn't mess it up.
 It's stressful though.

If you're anywhere near Monroe, I know a good glass guy. I've done several of the rope-in windsheilds and those aren't too hard but making them not leak is a good trick. That's why I like calling that glass guy, he lives a few blocks away.

I'm trying to save a buck, it's an '82. If it's just the kind that takes a gasket to hold in, and a string to install, I'm comfortable with that.
Right now it does not have a windshield in it, or the gasket, was'nt there when I bought it. It's a project car, right now the only thing keeping it off the road is the lack of windshield and a lot of cleaning.
