IP advance mod question
« on: February 16, 2008, 07:00:47 pm »
Ok, I said screw it, I'm going to put the 10mm head on my pump myself, put the intermediate spring back on the governor and shim the main spring a bit. While I was at it, I decided to do the timing advance mod and take some shims out. The only thing is from what I had read, I was expecting one spring, not a larger and smaller one. There also were only shims on one side, the cover side, none on the piston side. The larger spring seems to have a shim(s) in the cover, but it/they are stuck there and won't come out. The smaller spring has 2 thicker and one thinner shim, but it will also ride against the larger spring's shim(s) and not the cover. So I can remove 1 thick, 2 thick or all 3 shims from the smaller spring as far as I can tell. What's everyones thoughts? I'll try to get some pics up.

The springs and shims.

Cover and larger spring shim/plate/whatever. Also don't forget this is for an M-TDI, not an IDI.
