My turbo is mounted on an 8v gas exhaust manifold, lower than the vw.
I got a T3 off of a Saab. Luckily got the downpipe as well. The first elbow is about 2.5" dia and pretty tight radius, so I cut it off and welded it to another elbow to fit the vw.
The flange on the saab downpipe spins and presses the flared end of the elbow against the male part on the turbo. You can turn that elbow any way you want, so it really made it easy to fab the thing.

I have some pictures of it on the car I'll post up tonite. Dimensions aren't super precise, but I did use a tape measure. Also when you're looking at it from above the turbo, you have to turn the bottom elbow clockwise about 20 deg. I think, maybe more.
I bolted the top elbow to the turbo and held the bottom one to see what I had to cut. Cut a little at a time till you get what you need. Tack it together and test before fully welding it.

Intake is from a g60. I'm hoping it will bring awesomeness and benefits beyond my wildest expectations!
