I'm putting my main bearings in, and have discovered I have one set with oil holes on both instead of one with an oil hole & groove, one flat. Anyone see any problems with running it like that, or should I put one of my old ones in?
The flat one goes in the main cap. No need to use an old one. It won't give you the slightest trouble as long as you don't plug off an oil hole, and the cap doesn't have one.
the 4th main gets the 2 halves with the hole and groove. I thought there was a post about the cap bearings on here someplace, but my searching isn't lucky tonight. The bearing set I got said what went where, but I'm not close to the garage tonight.
edit: it's the groove all the way around that is important,
Well, damn, I lucked out then as I put it on #4. My bearings, Glyco, said nothing.
I think it is in the faq section under engine rebuilding.
Crap, so #4 has 2 holes? I didn't remember seeing any in my set, so I may have that one somewhere else. Guess I know what I'm doing today...  Though much better to find out now than later.
