1.4 TDI oil pump failure
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:32:28 am »
Does anyone know if there is an issue (factory known) regarding oil pump chain failure on polo 1.4 TDI (2001).

A friend's car has just suffered such a failure, however since the oil pressure light+buzzer feed off the RPM sender, when idling the oil light goes off even if there is no sump attatched.

a) is this oil light behaviour normal?
b) are the 1.4 tdi engines known for oil pump chain failures?
c) has there been any sort of factory recall or fix issued regarding this model?

thanks
Daniel

What was the mileage?

Check out this link on Passat 2.0TDI Oil pump chain failures.  The chain drives a balance shaft/oil pump assembly, and there have been a few failures.  What is the set-up on the 1.4? Is it a smaller chain than on the 1.9?

Mileage is just 55,000 Km and regarding chain size i am not sure if it is smaller or larger than the passat 2.0 but it does drive a balancer as well, like in the passat 2.0.

Does anyone know wether there has been a fix issued by VW?
or a special note placed regarding service intervals?
or special tests that need to be made in order to prevent such a failure from occuring?

Thanks

At this point, VW does not acknowledge anything.  We are not sure if its a production series, oil problem, or what yet.  Do you know if he always used the 505.01 oil? and proper intervals?

Can you get the VW part number on the chain, pump and balance assembly?
