I think this is what you want - 068 198 999 F

It's under repair kits. 1st vw parts wants $82 for it.

I just did a part number lookup on their site, doesnt exist. called VW....they said its out of production and theres only one left in his system and thats up by san jose (8 hour drive).

seems like i need to make a custom one.

Ah, yes vwmike - you're right!

Found it under 1980 Rabbit US

068 198 999 F
"installation kit / ventilation for cylinder block / CK
comprising:"
  068 103 111 A cover
  068 103 493 C breather hose
  068 121 324    cap
  028 127 311 A gasket
  N 905 618 01 clamp

Wow - Impex lists it at $110, and says it's list price is $126.  That is pricey!

is this basically the valve cover gasket with baffle and hoses that connect the valve cover and intake tube?   If so, won't one from a 1.6 fit?  If so, let me know I think I have what you need.

I believe it is the hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake, it also "T"s and another 5/8" hose goes down to a port on the front of the block.
I saw an engine on ebay today, that has it.
Another path for block gasses to exit toward the intake ... so oil can drain toward the oil pan without all the gasses pushing it back up.

Go here:

Put in this number - 068 198 999 F without any spaces.
Apparently the ONLY one left is that one at Sunnyvale Volkswagen. 1stvw, or that dealer would happily ship it out to you.

Here's the ebay ad with a picture of an old 1.5 with one on it:

You need the port that bolts to the front of the block too.

ok, i have the breather kit on order.

so the car needs a clutch...

the tranny is a 4 speed....does it use the same clutch as a gas 5 speed?

should I replace just the clutch? or should i do the flywheel and push plate as well?

Yes, the clutch is the same as that of a 5 speed. Your clutch is either 190 or 200mm.... I don't really know all the breaks on those. You can just replace it with another stock clutch and use your existing flywheel or if you want you can go up in size to the 210mm. The 190/200mm flywheel is very heavy, but the 210 flywheel is lighter if you want to go up in size at all. There are tons of options out there depending on what you're going for.

so i got a call back about the breather kit.....     sunnyvale wont part with it since its 'the last one' ...what are they gunna do with it? put it in a museum? kinda selfish if you ask me. so me and my buddy are just gunna make one. shouldnt be too hard. i also have a few 190mm clutch's laying around that are in good condition, I didnt think they were the same as diesel.

again, thanks for the help, guys, i really appreciate it.

once i get this thing runnin, ill snap a few pics and post them.

So I made my own oil breather kit last night....heres some pics.

I havent been able to see if this fixed the 'run on' problem yet because the car needs a clutch BAD. With the 4th gear being so tall, it wont even engage in 4th  :?

More later....

well, i took it out for a spin last night...runs great.....but i cant stop to save my life.

the brakes are piss poor....ive put new rotors and pads in the front and the rear drums/shoes look decent. (the rear drums work great cuz the ebrake works perfect) and ive bled all the lines so i know theres no air.

what happens is the brake petal goes to the floor and it stops very slowly.

I assume at this point i need a new master cyl. ive got 2 different people telling me which cyl to go with....one saying to go with the late model cabby or scirocco cyl....the other telling me to use a mk3 2.0 cyl without abs.

which one should i go with? should i replace the booster too? anything else i should replace while doing this upgrade?

The Scirocco 16v and mk3 2L w/o ABS are actually the same. They're both 22mm. You will have to change the booster if you do this, but the mk3 one won't fit. You'll need a booster from a later cabriolet, Scirocco, or possibly a mk2 Golf/Jetta. There have been more issues with the mk2 booster but if you can get one with the adjustable rod it should work. The 8v Scirocoo and cabriolet have a booster that is interchangeable with the Scirocco 16v and will work with that 16v/mk3 master. It was around 86 that they switched the style of master cylinders used so that they have a v shape to the line connections, so that is what your criteria are when searching for a booster.
