miminum piston projection?
« on: February 10, 2008, 09:01:56 pm »
Finally started putting my 1.6 TD back together today at long last. I bolted in one of the new second oversize Kolbenschmits in the bored out block to measure piston projection before I ordered a new head gasket.

Using a dial indicator I got a projection of only .019"! According to Mr. Bently, even for a 1 notch H.G. you should have a projection of between .026" and .036".

My question is: is that amount of projection unusual, and will it have a negative effect on cold starting?

I'm in the same boat.

I think I had like .23 on mine.
I had already bought a 3 notch and rather than wait (I should have ) I just installed it.

I really doubt it will make that much of a difference in a fresh engine. Now if it was older and had some miles on it I would be more concerned.
