Locks & Alarm?
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:02:12 pm »
I was thinking that it might be good to add power locks & an alarm to my MK1 Jetta. Not to protect the car so much as to protect the contents. Occasionally I have a spare laptop with me, usually in the trunk, but sometimes in the car.

I'm thinking getting some of those antitheft plates for the door handle will be a start. But Loud sirens & blinking LEDs might help too. Any recommendations for brands, etc?

Did you try e-bay store CarAlarmsEct? or PartsExpress.com?

Both have a large selection and have bits and pieces that they will sell sepperate.

IIRC Timbo'sTeckNotes  on vintagewatercooleds.com has a section on door lock actvator install. Uses a VW part that has two holes in it for the lock rod, instead of just one....part numbers #0357-837-083 and #0357-0837-084. These replace the levers that are in you lock now. One is left and one is for the right side.  This is for a Scirocco, should work for any VW.

Haven't done anything yet, as the car is awaiting other repairs, but that info will be handy. Thanks!
